In all, I'm very impressed with 12.04, Precise Pangolin, particularly with the improvements in multimonitor support, as we previous covered.
Last night, after some updates, I was greeted with a new slick LightDM login screen in 12.04. [gallery] In addition to changing to the users wallpaper (which has been around for about a month or so now), the entire experience is now a little slicker and its now extrememly well rounded - just another example of Precise quality for ...
Overall, I love Unity. The new version of Unity, 5.2 on Ubuntu 12.04 Alpha 2 is slicker, faster and better than ever - in fact, I'd say its getting close to converting most Unity unity dislikers.
Well, the long wait is over! No longer do you need to install the Ask Ubuntu Unity lens via a PPA! You can now install it straight from the Ubuntu Software Center! Simply click this link and it will happily download and install itself. For the terminal savvy, install the
unity-lens-askubuntu
package. Example of it in action: <img src="http://i.stack.imgur.com/O9ClI.png" ...
If you're like many in the Linux community, you probably don't like Unity/Gnome-shell for any number of reasons. So, you made the jump (like Linus Torvalds did) to XFCE. Now, you plug in your laptops monitor, and it doesn't.... work right. It's not a dual-monitor setup like you used to love and use in good 'ol gnome 2.x. ...
Well, it is a interesting day, and it's only 12:30PM (where I am)! Via the Wunderlist blog, Wunderlist is now available for Linux. I've downloaded it and I'm extremely pleased with it. Screenshot is below: That's about all there is to it - according to OMG! Ubuntu!, it also have Unity bar support, but not ...
First of all, I'm a Unity lover. While it doesn't work well with my graphics card, I love it all the same. Now that that's out of the way, Unity has come a long (and I mean long) way from Maverick Meerkat Netbook Remix, the release of Ubuntu where Unity first appeared. So, what is special about Unity in ...
Ok, so maybe it isn't as horrible as I'm trying to make it sound like. But it's still pretty bad, mkay? So, the way things work right now, we've got a predictably, regular 6-month release cycle that looks something like this: Ok, now that I've given you that little piece of flow chart goodness, ...
http://twitter.com/#!/cimi/status/101026590611349504 That above tweet shows what is both right and wrong with Ubuntu. If you look at the Elementary OS developer portal, it's very nicely designed. It's nicely organized. It's got a decent set of HIGs, or Human InterfaceGuidelines. There is nothing foreign to that idea. GNOME has them, but it's not the most complete set of things. ...
This is a amazing video by Jorge Castro.Watch, and then come back and read it because I have something for you. I personally am taking him up on that dare. After tweeting this, I got a RT by @lazypower (By the way Charles, you're amazing). So I made him a dare. Delete 20 ...
Well, it sure took them awhile. Or not. Here (yay!) is the Ubuntu 11.10 features, defined.
Hi Everyone - UDS is over and any post UDS super bugs (stupid ubuflu/ubupneuomonia) should be out of people's systems. Here is the feature list of items for Ubuntu this cycle. https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/oneiric?searchtext=desktop-o As always, you can see the burndown progress here: http://people.canonical.com/~platform/workitems/oneiric/canonical-desktop-team.htmlThe complete Oneiric ...
Well, it's that time. Time to come up with a few ideas on how to make Unity better. This evening, I was in the 2buntu chatroom on AskUbuntu, and Roland and I were having a chat. it went something like this. James Gifford: um. ^ that's from the ayatana list. "Hi all Yesterday evening an idea ...
