First of all, I'm a Unity lover. While it doesn't work well with my graphics card, I love it all the same. Now that that's out of the way, Unity has come a long (and I mean long) way from Maverick Meerkat Netbook Remix, the release of Ubuntu where Unity first appeared.

So, what is special about Unity in 11.10? Well, it's got some new nifty features, some of the old (sadly) bugs, and some new bugs too - but overall, it's a lot better than it was in Natty.

So, lets jump right in on our tour of Ubuntu 11.10, shall we?

First up, we've got our wonderful dash:

It's coming along nicely, and I'm impressed with it's performance (yes, that was taken with Unity 2D, but the 3D variant is much the same).

Files in the dashboard - lookin' slick!

And now we've got the (in my humble opinion) coolest thing: The new Alt-Tab:

So, in all, Unity is shaping up to be a very polished release, and I'm excited to see what they'll sneak in before release day.
