If, like me, you use Openshot regularly (though I'm planning to switch back to Kdenlive fully after many years away from it), then you've probably encountered the crashes, freezes, and other issues that come with this otherwise great and amazing video editor.

Now, Video Editing experts, please, hold your criticism - I'm not making movies here (yet).

However, you've probably been wondering how to get the latest, greatest version, which was in development for probably longer than my first nephew has been on the planet (that's pretty damning, Openshot). If you were looking to the standard Openshot PPAs (stable and daily), you'd have come up short (as I did), especially seeing as Jonathan seems to have said nothing about where to get the new beta.

But, thanks to a little digging (nothing impressive, I admit), I've found it!

It's here:

ppa:openshot.developers/libopenshot-daily

Not exactly what you expected, right? Same here.

GUI peeps, add this PPA to your software sources, refresh, and install openshot-qt.

For you commandline junkies, that's:

sudo apt-add-repository ppa:openshot.developers/libopenshot-daily
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install openshot-qt

Please note that this will replace your existing Openshot installation. You cannot use both the old GTK version (1.4.3) and the new (Qt-based) 2.0 Beta side by side. While the two are installed together, the older Openshot will fail to launch (I tried).

Obligatory: Openshot 2.0 Beta Screenshot

Look out for a review of the new Openshot in the coming weeks. I hope to test it out on two computers (one of which has Nvidia graphics woo hoo).
