There are quite a few tools dedicated for writing out there. But I was looking for something that supported Markdown, version control and sharing capabilities. I've rounded up the three services I liked most (and which I use for different scenarios - writing short documents, blog posts and a novel). So here they are (not ordered by ranking):
Typewrite emphasizes on a super-clean writing experience. There's not a lot of glamour attached to it, so no pesky configurations or anything to get in your way. It just let's you write!
It supports markdown, real-time editing, version control and dropbox syncing.
Like Typewrite, Draft also boasts of a very clean interface. The writing experience is much richer here (or so I felt because of the large-font, large-spaced monotype characters with ample line-spacing).
The thing that sets Draft apart from Typewrite is the numerous features or add-on services available to you. While Typewrite focuses purely on writing documents, Draft allows you to write documents, create presentations and transcribe videos.
Apart from the regular support for Markdown and version control, Draft offers quite a bunch of integrations with other services - you can publish your work in a number of places as well as sync your data with Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.. And if you feel like it, webhooks are also supported.
It uses the local browser cache to render and store your Markdown files and features a live preview which you can stack either vertically or horizontally based on your preference.
StackEdit also offers numerous integrations and options for exporting and importing your documents from - GitHub, Google Drive, Dropbox. It allows you to publish to services like Tumblr and Wordpress in addition to the previously mentioned services.
You also have an option of inserting automatically generated Table of Contents, saving locally in either PDF, HTML, Markdown or a template you choose.
And if nothing else will do. You can always write your documents in Markdown, version control it with Git, host the work on Bitbucket/GitHub, collaborate using forks, work on chapters using branches and finally use Pandoc to export to various formats!
