We still predict that Edge is likely to fail unless Canonical gets the backing of some major commercial entities.

We had said that Canonical needs to introduce more incentives to win more backers, and it seems like they've come to the same conclusion. Edge is now available at $695 (US, of course). This should give those who are just able to edge in (pun intended) a fighting chance to donate, while still getting something back. However, this may not, probably will not be enough.

So, what could save this campaign? A few things:

  • Commercial backers.
  • Additional incentives, such as shirts and other memorabilia.
  • A lower specced Edge for those unable to afford the full thing.

In any case, it may all be too little to late. Only the first option seems able to save Canonical's Campaign now.

We are NOT being negative for being-negative's sake. Rather, we are being realistic. If you can, please consider making a donation to give Edge a fighting chance. Remember: Even if the Campaign fails to succeed, the effectiveness of the campaign will not be lost on the industry. The outcome could influence Ubuntu's future in the Mobile space.
