If you're a money managing man or woman and use Linux you've probably found yourself searching long and hard for a good Microsoft Money replacement. Chances are, you eventually settled on one of the popular solutions; WxBanker, Homebank or GNU Cash... or, you found a rare gem - Skrooge.

Yeah, so it has possibly the funniest name of any money muncher ever, but it's one amazing app. Now, I won't claim to be able to make sense of all the features, because I have not used the application enough, and I'm not as deep into the whole... finance thing... yet. However, I promise you Skrooge will blow you away, unless you're well strapped in :)!

So! What's new in Skrooge 1.0.0? I'll let the devs speak for themselves (and I quote):

New Features
[caption id="" align="alignnone" width="512" caption="Skrooge 1.0.0 (from the original release announcement)"][/caption]

Grouping : As shown in the above picture, you can now group operations. But not only operations, you can group categories, payees, accounts... And you may group on any column shown in the view.

Recurring operations can be scheduled on a weekly basis

Allow to merge trackers by drag & drop

You may now build reports that will display a number of operations, instead of only the sum of amounts

Remove some clutter by reducing the number of icons in the toolbar in the default configuration.

New "Fast edit" button in operation editor.

It is now possible to copy cells content into the clipboard

If an account is closed while its balance is different from 0, it is displayed as a potential issue in the dashboard (advices widget)

Ability to create operations outside skrooge, using krunner : a string like "buy 10 ESSO" allows to quickly prepare add a new operation in skrooge. Advices in dashboard allows to finalize the creation

...That and a bunch of bug fixes. If you haven't ever heard of, used, seen, etc... Skrooge before, I suggest that now is a great time to try it. You can install it from the Software Center in 11.10, though to get the latest version you will need to add the PPA:
ppa:s-mankowski/ppa
You can also optionally add the Skrooge-beta PPA:
ppa:s-mankowski/beta
I must warn you that I have not personally tested the PPA versions though, so I don't know of any issues, improvements, etc. However, having used the version from the default repos and having found no fault (so far) I think you should be okay with the PPAs.
