Wine 1.5.6 a (development release) is out, and brings some big changes: Automatic installation of the Mono add-on package. Control panel applet for joysticks. Device bitmap rendering now done through the DIB engine. Support for video rendering through DirectX (VMR-9). First steps towards a D3D shader compiler. Build fixes for DragonFly BSD. Various bug fixes. This is a big deal, because most of these features will be a huge thing for gamers. I'm especially excited by the Mono support, as .NET is one of the biggest areas missing in Wine as it stands.
Perhaps you might be surprised that it took so long, but it has finally happened. Now, it was announced on Monday, but I was busy with other things and decided to defer writing about it. I'm glad I did though, because it has given me some time to get the details together. So, in a nutshell, here's what we know: This is not yet the year of the Linux Desktop, but it is a good year for Linux - as the Unity engine is a big step in the right direction. Cross-posted at thevoidghost.wordpress.com I live in India and they blocked certain torrent sharing websites along with Vimeo and Pastebin. Anyhoo, I thought it would go away just like the time it happened previously with the release of the movie Don 2 for which the ISPs blocked a few sites for a week. This is not an advertisement! Our own Nathan Osman (better known as George Edison), has updated his site, Quick Media Solutions, with a brand new look and feel, and a better navigational structure, which makes it easier to find the tools you want (and he has many). Also new on the site is the ability to login and keep track of what you downloaded, and more. You will find tools such as JS Studio, StackApplet, Software Center buttons for Ask Ubuntu, and more. So, without much further ado - head over and check it out: http://quickmediasolutions.com/
Half-Left has created an awesome Gnome Shell theme that mimics the look and feel of Google+, making Google+ users like me feel right at home! (Or at least, those of us who also use Gnome Shell, which I don't hence also why this post as yet has no screenshot). To get the theme: Make sure you have the Gnome-Shell user-theme extension installed and enabled, if not you can't use custom themes. Grab the theme from here: http://half-left.deviantart.com/art/GNOME-Shell-Google-306184522 Install and enable the theme in Gnome-Tweak-Tool Enjoy!
